CPR invests more than $20 million to improve two corridors

Canadian Pacific Railway plans to spend $12.8 million extending 14 sidings in eastern Ontario between Thunder Bay and Smiths Falls.
The 6,200-foot sidings will be extended to 7,600 feet to accommodate longer east-west trains, says Paul Thurston, manager of communications and public affairs for CPR's Toronto office.
Work is under way and expected to be complete by year end.
CPR also plans to spend about $9 million replacing rail and ties on eight subdivisions between Montreal and Chicago.
The joint project with CSX Transportation, which shares corridor investment with CPR, would help speed seamless moves from eastern Canada to the Midwest.
Work is expected to begin in July and conclude in November.
