Buttrey to serve as board's interim chairman after Nober's departure

Yesterday, the Surface Transportation Board announced it elected Commissioner W. Douglas Buttrey to serve as chairman until President Bush nominates a candidate. Current Chairman Roger Nober plans to step down Jan. 3.

The board also elected remaining member Francis Mulvey as vice chairman, effective after Nober’s departure.

In October, Nober — whose term expires Dec. 31 — announced he wouldn’t seek a second term as STB chair. In late 2002, President Bush nominated Nober to succeed Chairman Linda Morgan. Nober was confirmed by the Senate on Nov. 14, 2002, and appointed chairman on Nov. 26, 2002.
