The containers replaced older trailers in the 351-mile regional's fleet, providing customers with cleaner and more efficient equipment to move their goods, FECR officials said in a prepared statement.
"This acquisition will help accelerate the conversion of FECR trailers to containers in order to provide double-stack transportation service between Jacksonville and Miami," said FECR President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Hertwig.
Efficiencies from double-stacked containers enable the regional to reduce train length and move more densely built trains, FECR officials said.
