Since it was founded in 2023 as a transloading service provider, Transload X LLC has expanded its suite of services.

In 2024, the company acquired CSX-served, large scale transload yard, launched TransloadX Logistics and offered first/last mile trucking service to support customers oTransloadX-operated facilitiesLast year, the company expanded industrial development services, offered certified industriasites and began providing door-to-door logistics services.

Now, TransloadX is in the initial stages of launching short-line operation services. That effort means the company will be able to offer integrated service solutions for transloading, logistics, railroad operations and real estate development. It currently operates a CSX-served transload facility in Framingham, Massachusetts.

TransloadX was founded by John DeWaele and Michael Milanoski. DeWaele has more than two decades of rail industry experience, progressing from a brakeman to vice president of operations during stints with CSX, Providence and Worcester Railroad Co., and other railroads. Milanoski has extensive experience in the government, quasi-public and private sectors, and previously served as president of the Grafton & Upton Railroad.

In mid-March, TransloadX filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board regarding a deal the company struck with CSX. TransloadX plans to lease and operate two branch lines totaling 37.1 miles in Maine that are owned by CSX.

The deal involves the Augusta Branch running 18.3 miles from Waterville to Augusta, and the Bucksport Branch running 18.8 miles from Bangor to Bucksport. The Bucksport Branch has been primarily unused since a paper mill along the line closed in 2014.

TransloadX plans to form subsidiary TransloadX Railroad Co. toperate the lines.

TransloadX Railroad Company is committed to economic development with customer-focused services by revitalizing underutilized rail assets through transloading and online customer development,” said DeWaele in an email.

Going forward, TransloadX hopes to expand the business prospects for TransloadX Railroad.

“We will be looking at growth for both companies, transloading and short-line railroad operations,” said DeWaele.

Although transloading and logistics will remain core services, providing industrial switching and railroad operations will help unlock the full value of multimodal supply chains, DeWaele and Milanoski believe.

Their ultimate aim: to provide industrial switching services that support seamless transitions between truck and rail; efficient yard and plant operations; integration with broader logistics plans; and reliable service performance.

“We're going to make it happen,” said DeWaele.
