Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood yesterday announced his early retirement, citing the expiration of his U.S. work permit.
Greenwood, a Canadian citizen, was recently notified his permanent resident card (Green Card) is forthcoming following the expiration of his work permit on June 18, MARTA officials said in a press release. Out of an "abundance of caution" Greenwood ceased working and delegated Chief Customer Experience Officer Rhonda Allen as acting GM and CEO, they said.
"The immigration process is extensive and has had an impact on Mr. Greenwood’s personal and professional progress. These challenges have been resolved with Mr. Greenwood’s decision," MARTA officials said. MARTA's board will establish a committee to search for a permanent new GM and CEO.
Greenwood joined MARTA in July 2019 as chief of bus operations and urban planning, was promoted to deputy GM of operations in 2021, and was named GM and CEO in January 2022.
Under Greenwood's leadership, MARTA advanced the largest improvement and expansion program in its history, agency officials said.
