The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has increased its fiscal-year 2026 projected revenue from $444 million to $464 million, and released a revised FY26 proposed budget.
WMATA's FY2026 starts July 1. The proposed budget can be viewed here.
As of February, WMATA logged 46 consecutive months of ridership growth, which the agency partially attributes to commuters returning to working in the office rather than from home, WMATA officials said in a press release. As revenue increases, the need to transfer funds from the capital budget to the operating budget has decreased.
“We are excited to see ridership returning and revenue increasing, which allows [WMATA] to prudently invest in services and infrastructure where most needed,” said WMATA Chair Valerie Santos.
