TriMet close to capping off station improvements

The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) is finishing work designed to improve safety and security at the Gresham Central MAX light-rail station.
The pilot project includes installing barrier railing, improving lighting and making the platforms a fare zone to enable fare inspections to occur on the platform instead of after riders board a train.
Other work includes painting shelters and completing pedestrian enhancements to help ensure riders are more alert to approaching trains, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.
The final phase of construction, which includes installing architectural columns at the gateway to the fare zones, is expected to be completed by Labor Day.
The project is being funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars.
