S.F. Bay fare-payment card sets usage record
advertisement
The Clipper card payment system set a usage record of 325,000 boardings each weekday on San Francisco Bay-area trains, buses and ferries for the week ending Dec. 10.
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's Muni Railway accounted for an average of 177,350 Clipper weekday boardings, followed by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) with 92,575, according to Clipper officials.
BART is shifting regular customers to the Clipper card as the agency closes its proprietary EZ-Rider fare payment system. Caltrain plans to make its monthly passes available only on Clipper in early 2011. Also expected to join the Clipper network early next year: the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
