New Jersey Transit recently broke ground for a 253-space commuter park-and-ride lot near Plauderville Station.
The $1.5 million project — scheduled to be completed in late fall — includes pedestrian walkways, lighting, drainage improvements and curbing.
"Commuter parking has become a hot commodity throughout the state where customers are accessing our system, especially in Bergen County where we are seeing more riders taking advantage of the newly opened Secaucus Junction," said NJ Transit Executive Director George Warrington in a prepared statement. "The transfer station allows for quicker access into midtown Manhattan and other travel destinations in the state."
During the past two years, NJ Transit officials have tried to address a parking crunch. Some relief is on the way, they say. By summer's end, the agency will add more than 7,000 parking spaces systemwide, including a 1,300-space parking deck at a newly built station in Ramsey and 1,500 parking spaces at the new Montclair-Boonton Line Station.
