CTA continues to test 10 prototype rail cars
advertisement
Today, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is expected to begin in-service testing of 10 5000-series prototype rail cars on the Pink Line.
The prototypes currently are running on the Brown Line and already have been tested on the Orange, Blue, Green and Red lines. The prototypes must pass performance tests on all eight lines before becoming part of CTA's fleet.
Each car features seven networked security cameras, an event recorder system and sensitive door sensors. New aisle-facing seats can accommodate room for more riders as well as backpacks, packages, strollers and bicycles.
Other features include a more readable LED station indicator map, regenerative brakes and an alternating current propulsion system.
