On Monday, the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable’s Executive Committee recommended a draft list of $6.1 billion in transportation projects that would be partially funded by a penny sales tax per a referendum to come before voters next year.
The list, which outlines regional projects planned for the next 10 years, includes several proposed transit projects, including the $1.5 billion Atlanta beltline streetcar circulator and trail; $600 million Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) state-of-good-repair program and station enhancements; $792 million MARTA East heavy-rail line extension; and $1 billion Clifton rail corridor proposal for phases 1A, 1B and 1C.
The committee whittled the proposed projects list from $22 billion worth of projects. The full roundtable is scheduled to consider the list for approval on Oct. 15. Public hearings are scheduled throughout the region in September.
