VRE elects board officers
Virginia Railway Express (VRE) recently appointed new board leaders.
The commuter-rail agency named long-time board member Chris Zimmerman chairman. He currently serves on the Arlington County Board of Supervisors and represents Arlington County on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. Zimmerman served as past chair of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority.
VRE's Stafford County representative Paul Milde was appointed vice chairman. He also represents Stafford County on the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PTRC) and Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. In addition, Milde is a member of the George Washington Regional Commission, which focuses on transportation and economic development.
Sharon Bulova, VRE's longest-tenured board member, will become secretary. Representing Fairfax County, she previously has served as chair of NVTC, VRE and the Governor's Commission on Rail Enhancement for the 21st Century in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Finally, VRE appointed Prince William County representative Wally Covington treasurer. He also serves on the PRTC and Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation Planning Board, and is a member of the Transportation Steering Committee for the Virginia Association of Counties.
