Metrolink to receive $7.8 million in state funds for grade crossing improvements

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has approved $7.8 million for five grade crossing safety improvement projects on the Southern California Regional Rail Authority's Metrolink commuter-rail network.
Metrolink will widen roadways and install new automatic vehicle exit gates, sidewalks, handrails, automatic pedestrian gates and traffic signal advance preemption technology.
The funding for the five projects is being allocated through the state's Proposition 1B Highway Railroad Crossing Safety Account.
Metrolink's Moorpark Avenue crossing project will receive $4.8 million as part of the Ventura County Sealed Corridor Project. Construction is slated to begin in late summer 2013.
Grandview and Sonora avenue crossing improvements will receive $580,000 each as part of the Glendale Corridor grade crossing safety improvement project.
In Los Angeles, Branford Street crossing work will receive $1.325 million toward the total project cost of about $3 million, while a Woodley Avenue crossing project will receive $500,000 toward the $1 million effort.
