BMWED members ratify 5-year pact with Union Pacific

Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) members who work for Union Pacific Railroad have ratified a new five-year contract that secures 18.5% raises for all 6,600 UP employees.

The new agreement includes improved vacation policies and health and welfare benefits, union officials said yesterday in a press release.

"Especially with the proposed merger, it's more critical now than ever that our members' voices are heard and reflected," said Tony Cardwell, president of the BMWED. "This agreement ensures this, and because of their hard work and unity, they will enjoy substantial improvements for years to come."
