Alstom to build high-speed trains for Morocco's ONCF
advertisement
Alstom recently obtained a $535 million contract to supply 14 very high-speed, double-deck trainsets for Moroccan rail operator ONCF.
Scheduled to enter service in December 2015, the trains will run on the Tangiers-Casablanca route in the northern part of the country. Each trainset will include eight cars — two first class, one buffet and five second-class cars.
The trains will operate at 320 kph between Tangiers and Kenitra, and at 160 kph or 220 kph between Kenitra and Casablanca, depending on the running speeds set by ONCF. The high-speed connection will reduce travel times between Tangiers and Casablanca from the current four hours, 45 minutes to two hours, 10 minutes.
Alstom will adapt the cars based on a new generation of very high-speed, double-deck trains the supplier currently manufactures for French national railway SNCF.
