CSX recently completed significant infrastructure improvements at Walbridge Yard in Ohio, one of the Class I's largest flat switching yards.
The Walbridge facility, which processes approximately 1,000 rail cars daily, largely supports the automotive industry across the Great Lakes East region, CSX officials said in a press release.
To upgrade the yard's infrastructure in ways that further strengthen the Class I's network, CSX installed 5,500 new ties in the yard's eastbound segment and replaced 20,000 ties on the mainline from Ironville to Walbridge, Ohio.
"We’ve also extended several tracks in the arrival yard to improve efficiency,” said Scott Riddle, assistant superintendent at Walbridge Yard. “The upgrades, including the elimination of an s-curve and the extension of three tracks, are designed to increase our capabilities and overall production at the terminal.”
