CN this week announced it will spend $275 million on capital projects this year in the states of Illinois, Indiana and Mississippi.

The Class I is budgeting $170 million for projects in Illinois this year, including construction on its Chicago Logistics Hub, an intermodal terminal in Grundy County.

The Illinois capex plan also calls for upgrading technology and training facilities at CN’s Homewood Campus, as well as making network improvements, according to a CN press release. CN operates 1,667 route miles in Illinois.

In Mississippi, where CN operates 575 route miles, the railroad has budgeted $75 million for capex on track maintenance and strategic infrastructure projects this year.

And in Indiana, the Class I expects to spend $20 million on track maintenance, rolling stock and other infrastructure initiatives this year. CN operates 102 route miles in the state.

CN's investments in those three states are part of its 2025 C$3.4 billion capital plan.
