Union Switch & Signal Inc. recently obtained two contracts from Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari S.p.A. to supply automatic train-control systems for new transit-rail lines in Greece and Italy.
The company will provide automatic train protection, train operation and train supervision capabilities for the Thessaloniki Metro system and the Milan Metro's Line 5. The systems will eliminate the need for an onboard driver.
Milan Metro's Line 5 is scheduled to open in 2011 and Thessaloniki Metro, in 2012.
