Rail News: Amtrak
Sen. Brown calls for relocating Amtrak service in Ohio

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) is calling on Amtrak and Norfolk Southern Corp. to relocate Amtrak service from Elyria, Ohio, to the recently renovated Lorain County Transit Center. NS owns track in Lorain County.

In letters sent to the Class I and Amtrak last week, Brown urged Amtrak to use funds — currently slated to make the Elyria stop compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — to relocate its service to the transit center, which already is ADA compliant.

The Elyria stop has limited space and few amenities, while the Lorain center also offers Greyhound and Lorain County Transit Authority bus services, Brown said in a prepared statement.

"Relocating Amtrak service makes sense for a number of reasons: it would help continue downtown Elyria's revitalization, create a one-stop center for transit opportunities in Elyria and help fully utilize the newly renovated Lorain County Transit Center," he said.
