Rail News: Union Pacific Railroad
On Monday, Union Pacific Railroad and Texas officials broke ground on an intermodal terminal to be located 15 miles southeast of Dallas on the railroad's Dallas-to-Houston mainline.
To be constructed in phases, the terminal initially will include rail lines, cranes, buildings and truck parking areas. The first phase is scheduled to be completed in June 2005.
"This state-of-the-art facility will help us increase the ability to efficiently handle the growing rail-truck freight market in Dallas/Fort Worth and central Texas," said UP Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations Robert Turner in a prepared statement.
UP's Dallas-area intermodal traffic has grown substantially during the past few years, requiring the Class I to expand capacity to continue pursuing traffic in the market, UP officials said.
The terminal will be located in an industrial park developed by Prime Rail Interest Inc., which is developing other rail-served industrial parks in Texas.
