The TexAmericas Center, a mixed-use industrial park in Texarkana, Texas, yesterday commissioned into service two locomotives to expand on-site switching, transload and yard operations.
The locomotives are part of a broader $3.15 million ongoing investment into bolstering rail service at the park, which is a Union Pacific Railroad Focus Site. The locomotives will increase internal capacity, improve car staging and spotting reliability, TexAmericas Center officials said in a press release.
Both units meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier Zero-Plus emission standards. The locomotive commissioning coincides with the park's rail infrastructure expansion plans, including new track on the south end of the East Campus, additional spurs and storage-in-transit yards, park officials said.
TexAmericas Center officials announced the arrival of the new locomotives in August. They were partially funded by a $1.5 million defense economic adjustment assistance grant from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission.
