Rail News: Union Pacific Railroad

Union Pacific proposes constructing new rail line for polymer plant in Texas

advertisement

Union Pacific Railroad has proposed constructing and operating 5 miles of rail line in southcentral Matagorda County, Texas, according to a petition filed late last week with the Surface Transportation Board.

The proposed line would be known as the Wadsworth Industrial Lead, which would connect LyondellBasell's existing polymer plant in Bay City, Texas, to UP's Angleton Subdivision, according to the petition.

The project would strengthen LyondellBasell's position in the region by providing it with a second competitive rail option, UP officials state in the petition.

The proposed line would also provide long-term benefits to the local economy by making Matagorda County more attractive to future industrial investments along the line.

The petition can be downloaded here.
