Renfe Mercancias, the freight-rail subsidiary of the Renfe Group, presented the 2024 Carbon Footprint Certificate to several of its main logistics clients during the International Logistics Exhibition (SIL) held earlier this month in Barcelona, Spain. The recognition highlights the environmental benefit of choosing freight rail over road transport by quantifying the greenhouse gas emissions avoided. In total, the companies awarded the certificate avoided more than 240,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2024 by choosing to transport their goods by rail with Renfe Mercancias instead of by road. The certificates were awarded to 12 companies in various sectors including steel, automotive, paper, agri-food, port logistics and intermodal transport.

Manelli Impresa, in partnership with Alstom and Hitachi Rail, have been awarded a contract by Brescia Mobilita for the construction of the new T2 tram line in Brescia, Italy. The new line will connect the Pendolina and Fiera stations; the total contract value is about $374 million. The T2 line will run along a 7-mile double-track route between terminals in the city's southwest and northwest areas. The project includes 21 stops, a main depot at Fiera and an auxiliary depot at Pendolina, according to a Brescia Mobilita press release.

Pattison Co. LLC recently provided its Truck Trailer System to assist Iron Senergy in moving 20 empty rail cars 10 miles from a private siding to the company's mining facility in Pennsylvania. Pattison’s Truck Trailer System is designed to move empty rail cars over the road. It enables facilities to have a viable alternative to rail empty revenue moves such as lease returns, or scrap and shop runs. The system allows for precise rail-car positioning. Each case is reviewed for permitting and routing feasibility to ensure a safe and compliant transport, according to a Pattison Co. press release.
