The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency granted OptiFuel Systems LLC a Tier 4 rail certification for its internal combustion engine that produces zero nitrogen oxide or particulate matter emissions. The rail engine can seamlessly operate on any combination of renewable and fossil natural gas in either compressed or liquefied form, OptiFuel officials said in a press release. OptiFuel’s rail engine is identical to the California Air Resources Board-certified Cummins ISX12N engine. The engine is the only U.S. EPA rail certified prime mover that exceeds all of California's proposed standards for Tier 5, OptiFuel officials said.
STV named David Isabelle vice president and operations director of the transportation and infrastructure division’s Northeast region. Isabelle will be responsible for that group’s project and financial performance in the region, as well as its resource management, quality and safety initiatives, STV officials said in a press release. He has more than 25 years of experience. Previously, Isabelle served as senior VP and Northeast regional team leader for another planning and engineering firm.
Cylus and Waterfall Security Solutions partnered to provide a security solution for rail signaling and rolling stock systems. The solution integrates Waterfall’s Unidirectional Security Gateways with the CylusOne™ continuous monitoring solution to eliminate blindspots in railway systems' operational networks to ensure that safety-critical infrastructure is inaccessible to hackers, Cylus officials said in a press release. The solution also allows rail operators to reveal asset connections, uncover safety requirement breaches and diagnose impending service availability issues.
Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners entered into an agreement to acquire TRAC Intermodal and its subsidiaries from investment funds managed by an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group LLC. The acquisition, which is expected to close in the coming months, will strengthen Stonepeak’s infrastructure and transportation market portfolio, Stonepeak officials said in a press release. TRAC’s existing management team will continue to run the business in their current capacities. The transaction is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Volkswagen Konzernlogistik GmbH & Co OHG renewed its car transport contract with Transfesa Logistics. The contract calls for Transfesa to transport vehicles by rail from three cities in Germany and Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, to Madrid and Tarragona, Spain until 2022. Transfesa will continue to transport vehicles from Martorell, Spain, to the south of Germany, as well from the Volkswagen factory in Navarra, Spain, to the south of Germany, Switzerland and Austria, Transfesa officials said in a press release.
