R. J. Corman Railroad Services this week announced a rail scale rehabilitation project its St. Louis Emergency Services division completed in October 2025 for Rain Carbon Inc.
In one week, R. J. crews repaired significant structural deterioration and restored the accuracy of an in-motion scale at the Rain Carbon's carbon black plant in Robinson, Illinois, R. J. officials said in a press release. The in-motion rail scale measures the weight of rail cars and their components as they travel along the track.
Crews removed rail from two concrete approaches, cut off 300 failing bolts and demolished the scale's deteriorating base plates. They then drilled holes and installed bolts before positioning the new rail plates, R. J. officials said. The rehabilitation is expected to extend the scale's service life by 10 to 15 years and improve weighing accuracy.
