May 1: Updates from MAC Products, Wabtec, Koppers, Axion Power and The Andersons

• MAC Products Inc. has acquired ProTran1 L.L.C. and ProTran Technologies, according to a MAC press release. MAC will continue engineering, producing and supplying ProTran brand products at its New Jersey facility. Peter Bartek, formerly director of sales and marketing for ProTran1 and ProTran Technologies, now joins MAC as senior sales engineer in the transportation group.

• Wabtec Corp.’s MotivePower subsidiary obtained an order to build 10 locomotives for CFCLA Rail JV Pty Ltd., a joint venture of CFCL Australia Pty. Ltd. and Marubeni Corp. of Tokyo, according to a Wabtec press release. Scheduled for delivery in 2013, the locomotives will be MotivePower’s standard MP33C model and will feature components from other Wabtec divisions.

• Koppers Inc. and Union Pacific Railroad have agreed to extend their existing sales contract for an additional five years through Jan. 31, 2017. Koppers provides treated crossties and other products and services to UP.

• Axion Power International has received an order from Norfolk Southern Corp. for PbC® batteries for use in a battery-powered locomotive. This first $400,000 purchase order is part of a $475,000 total purchase order that will be used in the commissioning of NS’ NS-999 locomotive, according to an Axion Power press release. The total order will be shipped and deployed in the next 90 to 120 days. To date, the order is Axion’s single-largest PbC battery order.

• The Andersons Inc. appointed John Granato to the newly created role of chief financial officer, reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mike Anderson. Granato has broad and extensive global finance and business leadership experience, according to a company press release. He joins The Andersons after serving as a principal of finance and operations for Global Infrastructure Partners in New York City.
