Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

March 14: Updates from Invensys, Thales/Siemens, Axion International, RailComm and Pacer International


• Invensys Rail Corp. and Lilee Systems have partnered to provide a new Wayside Messaging Server (WMS) designed for positive train control (PTC) applications in North America. Invensys will provide sales, application engineering and field service support for the WMS-2000, which was developed by Lilee. The server provides an interoperable communications manager for PTC and legacy train-control networks. The unit has been certified for PTC application and complies with Association of American Railroads standards for stand-alone wayside messaging servers. The WMS-2000 currently is being installed on a “major southwestern rail passenger network,” according to Invensys.

• Thales and Siemens have obtained a four-year, $60 million contract to provide a permanent communications-based train control (CBTC) test track facility for MTA New York City Transit. To be installed on an express track on the Culver Line, the test facility will provide a controlled environment for the agency to conduct CBTC equipment scenario trials and assessments.

• Axion International has received its second order for Ecotrax™ switch ties from Bay Area Rapid Transit. The composite ties are made from 100 percent recycled plastic.

• RailComm named Michael Dampier vice president of sales and marketing. He will be based in Jacksonville, Fla. Dampier has 26 years of rail industry experience, specializing in signaling and locomotive products. Prior to joining RailComm, he held various senior management positions in sales, marketing, and research and development for “major railway suppliers,” according to RailComm.

• Pacer International Inc. named Bob Noonan executive vice president of International Logistics. He will lead the company’s Ocean World Lines, RF International, Pacer Distribution Services and PDS Trucking business units. Noonan is charged with growing the business units by expanding Pacer’s international and domestic footprint, developing new traffic lanes and service products, and integrating its air, ocean, freight forwarding, distribution and domestic service offerings.
