This year marks the milestone anniversaries of two Wabtec Corp. subsidiaries: Wabtec Rail and Vapor Bus.

A Doncaster, England-based locomotive builder/overhauler, Wabtec Rail is celebrating its 150th year in business; Vapor Bus, a Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based bus-door designer/manufacturer, its 100th.

Wabtec Rail has built and overhauled more than 2,500 locomotives, including Mallard, the world speed record breaker, according to Wabtec. To commemorate the company's impact on Britain's industrial heritage. Wabtec Rail will host an "open weekend" July 26-27 in partnership with Doncaster Council and Great Britain's National Railway Museum. Since 2001, Wabtec Rail has supplied Network Rail (formerly Railtrack Plc) with electronically operated, specialty maintenance-of-way freight cars that played a role in the on-time completion of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link’s first phase.

Established in 1903 as Gold Car Heating and Lighting Co., a supplier of piping parts for rail passenger car heating, Vapor Bus currently designs and manufactures bus door equipment. To commemorate its centennial, the company plans to host a Sept. 13 open house.

"The anniversaries of these core business units give Wabtec the opportunity to celebrate its long-standing history of innovation and influence in the rail and transit industries," said Gregory Davies, Wabtec's president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
