Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail supplier news from Nordco, Tutor Perini, ABB, Sasser, and Stacy and Witbeck (Aug. 21)

Nordco Inc. has been acquired by Greenbriar Equity Group L.L.C. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Nordco family of companies provide products and services that enable rail-related industries to build, improve, maintain and inspect their track infrastructure and reposition rolling stock. "This transaction marks an important milestone in our company's development. We are eager to work with our new partner Greenbrier, a firm that has a long history of working collaboratively with management teams to add value to its portfolio companies through their industry knowledge and network of relationships," said Nordco Chief Executive Officer Bruce Boczkiewicz in a prepared statement.

A Tutor Perini Corp.-led joint venture has executed a $985 million contract with the California High-Speed Rail Authority for the design and construction of the initial Madera-to-Fresno segment. The contract includes an additional $53 million in provisional sums. Tutor Perini is the managing partner of the joint venture, which also includes Zachry Construction Corp. and Parsons Corp.

ABB has obtained a contract from Brookville Equipment Corp. to supply a complete traction solution for new streetcars being built for Dallas Area Rapid Transit, which is constructing a 1.6-mile streetcar line to link the Dallas Oak Cliff neighborhood to Union Station in downtown Dallas. ABB will provide CC400 traction converters, HEX 30 cooling units and 99 kW AC traction motors.

Illinois-based Sasser Family Holdings Inc., a transportation asset services and management company, is marking 85 years in business. The fourth-generation, family-held business has five subsidiaries that provide rail and vehicle transportation equipment solutions, including asset leasing, fleet administration management, asset repair and maintenance, and technology services. The company's newest venture is NxGen Rail, which soon plans to offer high-technology inspection services.

Project construction manager Stacy and Witbeck will host an open house on Aug. 23 for companies interested in serving as a subcontractor, service provider or supplier for the construction of M-1 Rail's Woodward Avenue Streetcar Line in Detroit.
