Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail updates from Lilee Systems, Alstom, L.B. Foster, UNITRAC, Stantec, Bergmann and Parsons Brinckerhoff (April 16)

Lilee Systems and Alstom announced the joint launch of a new suite of interoperable positive train control (PTC) products for freight- and passenger-rail lines. The solution will offer a wayside interface unit with systems management agent functionality, according to a joint press release. The products will be available immediately to rail operators in the United States and Canada, Lilee Systems and Alstom officials said. In addition, Lilee Systems is working with Cisco to define, design and implement the rail industry's first end-to-end communication architecture for PTC. The companies plan to offer an all-in-one solution designed to minimize potential design and implementation risks, and provide interoperability.

L.B. Foster announced the following changes in its North American sales and customer service team: Bill Zimmer has been promoted to director of Class I rail sales; David Sprinkle has returned to the company as regional Class I sales manager; and Rick Steininger has been promoted to director of technical rail sales. Reporting to Steininger will be Mark Hammons, general manager of rail sales West. In addition, Joe Mahoney has been promoted to director of rail sales, and reporting to Mahoney will be Chuck Parks, who has been promoted to regional sales manager of the Southeast sales district. Also reporting to Mahoney will be Jay Roach, who has been promoted to regional sales manager of the Midwest sales district; reporting to Roach will be James Irr-Barr as sales representative in the Midwest sales district. In addition, Hector Herrera has been promoted to regional sales manager of Latin America, and he will be succeeded by Victor Gonzalez, who has been promoted to sales manager, Mexico.

UNITRAC Railroad Materials Inc. has named Bruce Bates executive vice president. With more than 19 years of rail industry experience, Bates will join the senior leadership team at the company's Knoxville, Tenn., headquarters.

Thomas Westerman has joined Stantec as railway bridge lead in the firm's heavy rail sector. He will focus on expanding the firm's railway bridge market share, and will provide leadership on major railway engineering projects. Westerman has more than 30 years of bridge engineering experience involving fixed and moveable railway bridges for freight and commuter-rail clients. He served as bridge engineer and project manager on a large number of projects, including standard timber, concrete and steel spans, as well as major railway structures across the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.

Bergmann Associates named Carmen Garozzo group leader of rail. Based in Buffalo, N.Y., Garozzo has more than 35 years of experience with complex and routine railroad truck and structural bridge design, railway planning and engineering, signal planning and design and management of construction operations with a primary focus on railway, highway and bridge transportation projects. Prior to his appointment, Garozzo served five years as senior rail project manager at Bergmann.

Parsons Brinckerhoff made the following personnel announcements: Anthony Federico has been named a principal systems and communications engineer in the Boston office, where he will be responsible for special systems telecommunications designs; Maximo Perez has been appointed a supervising construction engineer in  New York City, where he will be responsible for the review and approval of operational and maintenance manuals for communications systems; and Kenneth Jong has been named area manager for the San Francisco office, where he will oversee operations such as client relations, project performance, staffing, business development and marketing.
