ALSTOM, Siemens obtain contract from Belgian Railways

An ALSTOM Transport and Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. consortium recently obtained a $133 million contract from Belgian Railways to supply new electronic control centers and signaling equipment.

ALSTOM would receive $87 million to supply its SMARTLOCK interlocking equipment; Siemens, $46 million to provide project management and supply control-room equipment.

Meanwhile, ALSTOM also obtained a $91.8 million electrical and mechanical contract from Companhia do Metropolitano de Sao Paulo, which operates the Sao Paulo, Brazil, transit system.

The supplier will design, supply, install and test power-supply and electrical-distribution systems, telecommunications equipment and auxiliary systems for the first phase of the new Amarela Line. Scheduled to open in 2007, the eight-mile, 11-station line is expected to serve 1 million passengers daily.
