Watco has been selected as the new rail operator of the Great Plains Industrial Park in Parsons, Kansas, effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Union Pacific Railroad serves the industrial park, which has more than 6,800 acres of property and 26 miles of track. Watco's South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad operates in the area.

Watco will provide switching, transload, warehouse, material handling, truck and logistics services, including an approved foreign trade zone for rail- and non-rail-served customers within the park, Watco officials said in a press release.

The company envisions tremendous potential for growth, expansion and economic development in the region through the long-term partnership, said Watco CEO Dan Smith.

"The opportunity to partner with a Kansas-based, international transportation and logistics service provider is invaluable. The service offerings and business development capabilities within the park are now at a world-class level," added Brad Reams, the park's director.

Created in 2012, Great Plains is a carbon-neutral industrial, transportation and economic development park.
