Rail News: Short Lines & Regionals

Railinc rolls out new-and-improved RailSync Command services

Railinc recently enhanced RailSync Command, part of the company’s suite of information technology services. Command now offers improved real-time train operations, service scheduling and Interline Service Management (ISM) capabilities.

The service scheduling features are designed to enable railroads to better plan crew and asset utilization based on historic performance data. ISM capabilities, now available for beta deployment to short lines using Command, are aimed at seamless interline service. Overall, the new-and-improved Command can eliminate information “black holes” that exist between short line and regionals, and their Class I connections, according to Railinc.

“These enhancements will provide short lines with the ability to schedule and share shipment information regarding ETI, ETA and transit times,” said Railinc Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Sales Richard Flynn in a prepared statement. “In the past, Class Is had to ‘gap’ the service schedule for the short line portion of an interline shipment.”

Railinc provides IT services to North American railroads, shippers, equipment owners and suppliers, and manages e-commerce Web site Steelroads.com.
