OmniTRAX Inc. commemorated its 40th anniversary of rail service on July 15 with a gathering of community leaders at the site of its original railroad in Colorado.
“The Great Western Railway [of Colorado] will always be our first railroad, our first community, and the first proof that collaborative local partnerships can achieve extraordinary things,” said OmniTRAX CEO Colby Tanner in a speech at the event.
OmniTRAX was founded in 1986 when industrialist Pat Broe purchased the Great Western to prevent its closure, then established an adjoining industrial park to attract tenants that use rail service in their supply chains.
In the four decades since, OmniTRAX has expanded to 35 railroads nationwide, serving ports and industrial hubs. The Great Western Railway operates more than 80 miles of track and interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad in Greeley, Colorado, and with BNSF Railway. in Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland, Colorado.
