Genesee & Wyoming's same-railroad traffic slips in November
advertisement
Last month, Genesee & Wyoming Inc.'s (GWI) carloads from continuing operations totaled 72,725 units, up 16.5 percent compared with November 2007's total.
However, same-railroad carloads — which exclude carloads moved by railroads GWI acquired within the past 12 months — decreased 9 percent primarily because of a decline in metals, pulp and paper, and lumber and forest products traffic.
In October and November, GWI's carloads totaled 154,253, up 18.6 percent compared with the total from fourth-quarter 2007's first two months. Same-railroad traffic fell 7.6 percent.
GWI owns and operates 63 regionals and short lines in the United States, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands, and owns a minority interest in a Bolivian railroad.
