Rail News: Short Lines & Regionals

Louisville & Indiana names Boyd roadmaster

Louisville & Indiana Railroad Co. (L&I) recently named Daryle Boyd roadmaster to succeed Bob Heilman, who's served in the position since the 111-mile short line's 1994 startup.

A 30-plus-year railroading veteran, Boyd most recently served CSX Transportation as roadmaster in Connersville, Ind., where his territory included an Indianapolis-to-Cincinnati route used by Amtrak. During his tenure, the territory had no reportable injuries for nine-straight years, no derailments for three-consecutive years and the fewest track defects in CSXT's Midwest Region, according to a prepared statement.

Boyd previously served several railroads in a variety of maintenance-of-way positions, including trackman, foreman, welder, equipment operator, track inspector and assistant roadmaster.

Heilman plans to remain with L&I until Nov. 14 to assist in the transition.

L&I is owned and operated by Anacostia and Pacific Co. Inc., which also owns New York & Atlantic Railway Co., Pacific Harbor Line Inc., and Chicago Southshore & South Bend Railroad.
