Vista Proppants and Logistics LLC on Wednesday announced it launched operations at a transload terminal near Monahans, Texas. The facility will help facilitate the delivery of frac sand into the Midland and Delaware basins of the Permian Basin, Vista Proppants officials said in a press release. Located near the company’s west Texas mine in Monahans, the terminal will accommodate efficient shipments of frac sand via rail from the mine, they said."There has been tremendous growth in the amount of frac sand produced in west Texas. The related increase in truck traffic has resulted in significant congestion on the local and regional road system, which will be further pressured as additional announced production comes online," said Vista Proppants Chief Executive Officer Gary Humphreys. "Through the development of a transload terminal facility located very close to our west Texas mine, we will be able to deliver our products via rail car in multiple directions into key markets in the Permian."The Texas and New Mexico Railway (TXN) operates 111 miles of track from a connection with Union Pacific Railroad in Monahans to Lovington, New Mexico. Owned by Watco Cos. LLC, TXN handles such oilfield commodities as frac sand, drilling mud, pipe and hydrochloric acid.
