Rail Industrial Partners LLC (RIP) and the San Jacinto River & Rail Park (SJRR) have entered an agreement to explore the expansion of rail service at the Houston industrial park.

Owned and managed by W&P Development Inc., the SJRR now has access to Union Pacific Railroad's and BNSF Railway's joint Lafayette Line and is served by both Class Is, RIP and SJRR officials said in a joint press release.

The partnership will explore opportunities to develop on-site terminals and add on-site transloading, rail-car cleaning, maintenance, repair and rail-car storage services. To expand into a full rail-served industrial park, a new rail connection to the joint UP and BNSF mainline will need to be constructed, RIP officials said.

The SJRR is home to 500,000 square feet of heavy industrial facilities, and has 870 acres available for industrial development. Growing demand for rail service in the Houston market prompted RIP and SJRR's agreement,  officials from the companies said.
