Communication breakdowns sometimes occur between railroads and shippers. The typical cause? A misunderstanding of expectations.A webcast to be presented by Progressive Railroading tomorrow will review why erroneous assumptions on various matters — such as technologies, networks, data and competition — can have a devastating impact on the railroad/shipper relationship. Titled "Shipper Logistics: Understanding Customer Challenges," the webcast will be held Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. (EST) and costs $149 to attend.Presented by Larry Shughart, the transportation consulting practice lead at WorleyParsons, the webcast will offer a thorough discussion of how both shippers and railroads can promote a greater understanding of their respective businesses, and forge stronger, more successful partnerships. Progressive Railroading Editor Pat Foran will serve as moderator.
The webcast also will attempt to analyze the cost of transportation versus the delivered cost of goods for several key commodities; assess the role of inventory and network design in a shipper’s supply chain strategy; review what "good" shippers do well; and address common shortcomings of many industrial shippers. To obtain more information about the webcast and to register, follow this link.
