Ceres Global launches operations at BNSF-served ag hub in Saskatchewan

Ceres Global Ag Corp. announced Monday that 63 hopper cars from BNSF Railway Co. arrived at the company's commodity logistics hub in Northgate, Saskatchewan.

The arrival of the hopper cars signaled the start of loading and shipping operations for wheat and other agricultural commodities at the Northgate terminal, Ceres Global officials said in a press release. A temporary grain transloading facility was completed in October 2014 and a U.S. Customs trailer was installed in late December.

"Northgate is now fully operational, and able to provide grain farmers with a critical north-south link into BNSF's 32,500-mile network," said Ceres Global Chief Executive Officer Patrick Bracken.

Wheat and grains will be sourced from farms throughout southeastern Saskatchewan for loading and shipment through the Northgate facility, Ceres Global officials said.

The company also plans to further build out the facility by constructing a permanent, high-speed grain elevator designed to store 2.2 million bushels and load a 120-car shuttle train. The elevator is expected to be operational in October 2015 and completed in March 2016.
