Virginia Railway Express (VRE) has outlined additional precautions to support social distancing and cleanliness on its commuter trains as the Washington, D.C., region enters its first phase of reopening and ridership is expected to grow.
This month, VRE will install platform decals, onboard graphics and window decals to indicate to riders where they should stand and sit to ensure proper distancing.
VRE also plans to install hand sanitizer dispensers on trains and at stations, and enhance rail-car cleaning protocols.
The commuter railroad also will encourage use of its mobile application to purchase and use fare tickets.
“The safety of our riders remains VRE’s top priority,” said Acting Chief Executive Officer Rich Dalton in a press release. “The precautions we are taking are designed to protect the health of our riders.”
