Metro Transit has rolled out a new feature for its mobile app that enables customers to text the agency about suspicious or unwanted behavior on trains and buses.Using the "Text for Safety" function, riders can directly contact Metro Transit staff, who can respond by text and send police if needed, agency officials said in a press release.The service is being introduced so passengers can seek help if they don't feel safe making a phone call, such as in harassment situations, they said."Our riders expect — and more importantly deserve — to feel safe whenever they ride with us," said Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lamb. "Providing another option to report suspicious or unwanted behavior enhances that feeling and sends a message to our customers that we’ll be there for them when they need us the most."Riders can access the service using the latest version of Metro Transit's app or by sending a direct text message to the "Text for Safety" line.In emergencies, passengers can still call 911 or use emergency call buttons available at all stations and on trains.
