In partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) has awarded $197,999 in competitive grade crossing safety awareness grants to Operation Lifesaver programs in 10 states. The grants will be used for various crossing safety public education projects and campaigns by Operation Lifesaver organizations in California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
For example, California Operation Lifesaver plans to run a targeted crossing and trespass prevention campaign from June 1 through July 31 to coincide with the 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer event, while Kansas Operation Lifesaver is organizing a statewide, agriculture-focused crossing safety campaign targeted at farmers, ranchers and rural drivers.
"We’re proud to support our state programs as they bring these innovative rail safety education projects to life,” said OLI Executive Director Rachel Maleh in a press release.
