Ohio panel OKs upgrades at NS, short line grade crossings

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) this week approved safety upgrades at grade crossings in Franklin and Coshocton counties.

Norfolk Southern Railway will install gates and flashing lights at the County Road 117/Brice Road crossing in Franklin County by May 28, 2026. Federal funding will project's cost, a total which was not revealed in PUCO's press release. NS will submit site plans and cost estimates to PUCO Rail Division and the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) by Aug. 26.

PUCO also approved flashing light and gate upgrades to the Columbus & Ohio River Railroad (CUOH) crossing located at the intersection of Clow Lane in Coshocton. The commission will cover 75% of the project's $261,713 cost with funding from the State Grade Crossing Protection Fund; CUOH will provide 25% in funding and cover maintenance expenses.
