Ohio commission approves three grade crossing upgrade projects

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) on Jan. 22 approved over $1 million in federal funding for three grade crossing upgrade projects in three counties.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway will install flashing lights and gates at the State Route 151 and Boyce Drive crossing in Harrison County by Jan. 21, 2027. Federal funding of $329,788 will cover the cost of the project, PUCO officials said in a press release.

Akron Barberton Cluster Railway will install flashing lights and gates at the North Chestnut Street crossing in Ravenna by Oct. 21, 2026. Federal funding of $451,081 will cover project costs.

Finally, Ashland Railway will install flashing lights and gates at the East 9th Street crossing in Ashland County by Oct. 21, 2026. Federal funding of $310,265 will cover all project costs.
