WMATA to implement new safety program

advertisement

Concerned by the deaths of three track workers last year, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) officials plan to launch a multi-year initiative to improve safety systemwide.

During the next 30 days, the authority will hire a contractor to analyze current safety measures, recommend improvements, initiate new safety measures and create a new safety training program for supervisors.

The new safety plan likely will call for increasing the authority of WMATA’s safety officers, holding supervisors more responsible and accountable, and implementing a public outreach campaign on system safety.
