WMATA to participate in FTA emergency management program pilot

The Federal Transit Administration recently selected the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) for a Transit Emergency Management program pilot to be used as a model by transit systems nationwide.

To be administered by the National Transit Institute, the program calls for WMATA to review existing emergency management practices, create an emergency management team and develop an emergency management operations plan.

The program aims to help WMATA minimize emergency response times and service delays, improve communications with passengers, and improve coordination and reinforce partnerships with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
