The #8 and #821 vent valves are designed to vent Brake Pipe air on a locomotive at a high flow rate, ensuring a rapid Brake Pipe pressure reduction is effectively transmitted throughout the train. Two initiation methods are available: traditional sensing of a pneumatic emergency Brake Pipe pressure reduction, with an optional capability to also sense 21-pipe pressure venting to initiate Brake Pipe venting.
