The Omnicon Group develops software, hardware and test solutions aimed at improving reliability and safety in the transportation industry and beyond. For the rail industry, the company's engineers are working to increase the mean time between failures on systems to reduce the probability of catastrophic hazards occurring.

The firm’s engineers collaborate with rail manufacturers to perform reliability, availability and maintainability monitoring on automatic train control equipment, a speed control mechanism that uses signaling technologies to gradually decelerate instead of halting to a stop. If a train exceeds maximum speed, an alarm sounds in the cab. If the locomotive engineer fails to reduce speed or apply the brakes, an automatic penalty brake is applied.
