SkyBitz: Intermodal chassis tracking and container detection system

SkyBitz® recently introduced the Falcon GXT3100i, an intermodal chassis tracking and container detection solution. The Falcon GXT3100i is designed to provide a complete picture of a chassis’ location and whether a container is loaded on it or not via the SkyBitz Container Detection Sensor.
It offers intermodal operators visibility of their assets’ entire chain of events, from the arrival and departure from customer sites to all events occurring in between. The real-time data allows them to improve on-time deliveries, reduce delays and turn-cycle times, SkyBitz officials said in a press release.
The Falcon GXT3100i is an all-in-one configuration designed specifically for chassis and offers ease of installation, maintenance and operation, they said. It consists of a proprietary mounting bracket for chassis that holds the GXT3100 cellular tracking device and the SkyBitz Container Detection Sensor, which utilizes ultrasonic technology to report that a chassis has a container loaded on it.
Device design, low cost and low power consumption make the Falcon GXT3100i ideal for the intermodal industry, SkyBitz officials said. Managers can program reporting requirements with the device to have it shut it off for periods of time and geographic zones, such as when the asset is on rail, to save even more power and unnecessary reporting, they said.
The Falcon GXT3100i offers improved asset turn ratios and reduced outbound loaded idle time; views of accurate cargo arrival and unload times; increased existing asset utilization that helps reduce rental fees for additional chassis; accurate detention management supported with valid data to enforce detention billing; and total asset visibility through accurate real-time arrival and departure data, and reports while a chassis is at an intermodal facility or in motion.
"Not only will chassis providers receive door–to-door visibility on the location of their equipment, they’ll also gain insight into whether a container is loaded or unloaded on the chassis," said SkyBitz President Henry Popplewell. "The actionable information from this solution allows intermodal businesses to gain better utilization, avoid misuse, and increase their customers’ satisfaction by improving on-time delivery."
